Hunger Fact
There is no possible excuse for children to go hungry in Ghana and Africa Yet it happens - every day, in every community.

Food insecurity
In 2022, 39.4% of Ghana's population, or 12.9 million people, were moderately or severely food insecure. This was a 47% increase from 2021. The northern part of Ghana has the highest prevalence of food insecurity, at 23-49%.

Malnutrition in Ghana
Ghana faces the triple burden of malnutrition, which includes underweight, overweight, and micronutrient malnutrition. One million children under the age of five are chronically malnourished.

Poverty In Ghana
25.2% of Ghanaians are under the poverty line, and another 20.1% are susceptible to poverty. The majority of Ghanaians living in extreme poverty are in rural areas, where they live on less than $1.90 a day.

Hunger in Africa

Conflict and climate change are major factors in persistent hunger in Africa. Conflict displaces farmers, destroys crops and land, and disrupts food supplies. Climate change increases water scarcity and degrades soil, which reduces access to food and increases its cost.
